Well, we do most root canals in our office. We do [inaudible 00:00:04]refer out some, but we do most in our office here. And nowadays, with the anesthetics that we have, with the technology that we have, a root canal is often no more complex than a filling. For the patient, you’re comfortable during the procedure. You know, a lot of people hear horror stories about root canals, but with the changes that we have in anesthesia, and the technology with doing root canals, it really is a much more comfortable, easy procedure to do. And it’s an excellent way to save a tooth, and can often be a much more cost-effective way to save a tooth rather than having to have it extracted and replaced later on.
Feel Better Soon With Root Canal Treatment
Contrary to what many people believe, a root canal doesn’t cause you pain. It will stop the pain caused by a diseased tooth. A root canal procedure will most likely be recommended if you have an untreated cavity or tooth injury and infection has reached the soft, inner portion of the tooth. Significant pain often results if this area, called the pulp chamber, becomes infected.
To repair your tooth and save it from extraction, Dr. Despain and our team will:
- Offer you a choice of sedation options if desired
- Access the pulp chamber through the top of the tooth
- Remove the infected tissue
- Disinfect the tooth to prevent further problems
- Shape and repair the root canals
- Fill the tooth with an inert material
- Cap the repaired tooth with a new crown made right in our office
After your treatment is finished, your tooth will be almost as strong as before. The crown will cover the entire tooth to restore virtually all your biting and chewing capacity. You’ll also have a beautiful tooth that you’ll feel confident showing off.
