Well, in some people their teeth cannot be saved and so, we do have to remove them and look to alternatives like dentures. There are three main options when it comes to dentures. There’s the traditional dentures where it just sits in your mouth. It comes in and out really easily, but it’s not retained by anything except the tissues in your mouth. There’s also some implant-retained dentures that are attached to the implants in your mouth that kinda like a button snap that you would have… find on your coat. And there’s also another kind of implant retained dentures where the implant is actually…the denture is attached to the implant, and it does not come in and out of your mouth except for when you come to the dental office for your cleanings. So, there are many ways of doing dentures with a lot of technology that we have, and the different labs that we use. We can really change the process and make it go from being a five-visit to only a two or three-visit appointment for you.
And so, a lot of times we can do 3D printed dentures, which are great. When you come into our office, and if you need to have teeth removed, after removing your teeth, you’ll get what’s called a healing denture. You’ll wear it for a few months, and then you’ll get a whole new denture that will fit your new tissues and your new mouth after it’s all healed. So, it really is an excellent process that’s come a long ways in the past few decades from being the process that maybe your parents or grandparents knew.
Smile Genuinely With Modern Dentures
You don’t have to go through life without having a mouthful of attractive and functional teeth. Even if you’re missing all your natural teeth, custom dentures are an excellent way to regain your smile and your bite. Dr. Despain would love to help you enjoy life more through a complete set of teeth, just like he’s been able to do for many other patients.
To have your new dentures made, we’ll first scan your mouth with a digital scanner. You won’t have to endure any goopy mess with these high-tech impressions. The specifications will be sent to our lab partner, who will custom craft your new teeth.
Depending on your needs, you can choose from several types of dentures:
- Traditional Full Dentures – This style of denture will replace full arches of teeth on your upper or lower jaw. They’ll stay in place using suction and a bit of denture adhesive.
- Traditional Partial Dentures – Partials may be a good fit for you if you have some healthy teeth remaining. Your dentures will clasp into place to these existing teeth.
- Implant-Retained Dentures – Your replacement teeth will snap into place to dental implants using a system of snaps and balls. You’ll never need adhesive, and you won’t have to worry about them slipping out of place.
- Implant-Supported Dentures – These are our most comfortable dentures. They will anchor to a sturdy metal bar attached to implants. Unlike other types of dentures, you won’t have to remove these teeth for cleaning or care. Just brush and floss your teeth like you always have.
- Temporary Dentures – We’ll fit you with temporaries to wear while your final restorations are being manufactured.
Secure Your Custom Dentures to Implants
One drawback of dentures is that lower dentures tend to shift and move around a bit in your mouth. For a more secure smile, you can pair your dentures with implants. Dr. Despain offers both full and mini-sized implants. They offer numerous benefits:
- You can enjoy chewy and crunchy foods thanks to stronger oral function.
- Your facial structure will appear more youthful since you avoid that sunken cheek look that results from bone loss.
- It usually takes only one appointment to get mini dental implants. You’ll leave our office with your whole smile intact.
